Students celebrate a superb set of GCSE results

The wait is finally over for students, across our schools, eagerly waiting to find out how they’ve done in their GCSEs. The results are in, and once again their efforts have paid off with a superb set of grades.

Recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and recipient of ‘Secondary School of the Year’ award in recognition of its exceptional classics curriculum, 78% of students at this Norwich city centre school’s achieved grades 9-4, a 7% increase on 2023 – 63% at grades 9-5 (up from 50% in 2023). 

At Wayland Academy, in Watton, where 64% of pupils achieved 9-4 grades in both English and maths (50% at grades 9-5) Executive Principal Iain Mackintosh said: 

“Our pupils are not only a credit to the school, but the wider community as well, who I’m sure will want to join in with congratulating them for their hard work. 

 

Sitting GCSEs can be incredibly daunting and our young people have shown courage and resilience and should be proud of their results.” 

Vishnu achieved a monumental eight grade 9s! He was extremely pleased with his results and said: 

“I am hoping to go into a career in STEM and going to Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form this September. I am going to be studying maths, further maths, physics and computer science. All the teachers at Wayland Academy have been so supportive during my time here. I joined in Year 10 and everyone was so welcoming to me, it was really easy to settle in. I’m really happy with my results and looking forward to the future!” 

Hethersett Academy celebrated an astounding set of results: 85% of students scored 9-4 grades in English and maths – 73% achieved 9-5, with 36% at grades 9-7*. 

Hewett Academy, renowned for its exceptional visual arts offer, and which currently has a staggering eight students’ work included in the Royal Academy of Arts’ Young Artists’ Summer Show 2024, has had a record year. An impressive 74% of its students secured grades 9-4 in both English and maths – an 11% increase on last year (2023: 63% 9-4). 55% were grades 9-5, a 12% jump on 2023. 

Principal, Antony Little said: 

“The whole team at Hewett would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to our Year 11s. 

 

You’ve proved that anything in life is possible if you approach it with the right attitude... and our school will always be a better place for your time here with us.” 

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, which was recently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, saw students achieve 58% of grades 9-4 in both English and maths – a 6% increase on last year (2023: 52% of English and maths grades were 9-4); 35% of grades were 9-5*. 

King Edward VII Academy had another fantastic year, with the total figure of students to secure 9-4 grades in both English and maths at 59% (41% at grades 9-5.) 

Cromer Academy saw 69% of students achieving grades 9-4 in both English and maths – 52% were grades 9-5* 

John Vincent, Principal said:

“Congratulations to our Year 11s, not only for your academic achievement, but also for setting such an excellent example for our younger students. Your commitment to learning and determination to make a positive contribution to the culture of the whole school community makes us very proud.” 

While Thetford Academy students that received 9-4 grades at both English and maths stood at 53% (38% at grades 9-5). 

East Point Academy, Principal Lucy Austin said: 

“We couldn’t be more proud of our students, who have worked so hard, supported by their families and our dedicated staff, to achieve a truly fantastic set of results. We’re excited to see their next steps and wish them all the very best.” 

Collectively, 63% of pupils received grades 9-4 in both English and maths – 45% were grades 9-5. 

Sophie who received 4 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and a grade 7 and 6, hopes to go on to study maths and sciences at East Norfolk College. Sophie said:  

"I'm very happy with my results. Everyone has been so supportive, especially in revision sessions, and have pushed me to get the best outcomes I could have achieved."
