Primary Dodgeball Event a Celebration of Integrity, as Sporting Values Demonstrated by All
BackOn Friday 6th December, 120 primary school students took part in the annual Trust Primary dodgeball tournament at the Eileen Ash Sports Hall at Hewett Academy in Norwich.
Year 5 and 6 students from all six Inspiration Trust primary schools across Norfolk and East Suffolk attended the event. Students from Charles Darwin Primary, Cobholm Primary Academy, Queensway Academy, Great Yarmouth Primary Academy, Norwich Primary Academy, and Stradbroke Primary Academy provided a thrilling tournament to mark the beginning of our 2024/25 Primary Sports Events.
After arriving and setting up camp at their school’s ‘team base’ for the day, Team photographs were taken by our marketing team, which will be framed and sent to the schools to celebrate those students competing in the tournament. The event followed a round-robin style tournament, with teams of 5 girls and 5 boys from each Year group going head-to-head in 30 total dodgeball matches across four simultaneously running dodgeball courts. Each court was supported by Hewett Academy sports leaders and Level 3 Sport students from Sir Isaac Newton.
After the tournament briefing, the dodging began! Fast-paced, nail-biting action ensued, with the speed, coordination, and accuracy of our Primary students there for all to see! Each game saw players jump, duck, drop and roll to avoid being hit. While each dodgeball match played over a series of 5 games was officiated by our sports leaders, students constantly demonstrated our sporting value for the competition, integrity, by being honest and respecting the rules of the game, which keep games competitive but fair, and made the event a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all involved. Paul Wayman, Inspiration Trust Sports Coordinator said:
“We are so proud of all our Primary students, who demonstrated today’s sporting value of Integrity at a level far beyond their age. Seeing children competing in a fair and respectful manner, while bringing exceptional competitiveness and team spirit, was simply amazing. Every single one of them could have taken home a best attitude or player of the tournament trophy and made our job of choosing the eventual winners very difficult! Our thanks must also go out to our Primary School Staff, who dealt with team management, substitutions and first aid efficiently and ensured all students went home with a smile on their face.
We must also commend the fantastic sports leaders from Hewett Academy, who assisted with refereeing, scoring, and running of the event. They really are a credit to the school and the Trust. Also, a massive thanks to our Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form students, who took on numerous roles across the day to make this competition a memorable one. We can’t wait for the next Primary Sport Event, our 6-a-side football tournament, in March.”
