On Thursday 13th, Friday 14th, and Saturday 15th February, students from three trust schools, Hewett Academy, Jane Austen College, and Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form came together for the fourth consecutive year for an exceptional performance of 'Our House’ at the atrium at Jane Austen College.

Following the success of ‘‘Annie the Musical’ in 2023 and ‘Oliver’ in 2024, the three schools collaborated once again to wow audience members, with students from all year groups involved in the performance, boasting a professional set, sound, and lighting, and accompanied by a talented live orchestra of both staff and students. Students performed Madness classics, such as, ‘Our House’ and ‘House of Fun’.

The production has been a spectacular group effort, led by Inspiration Trust’s Secondary Performing Arts Associate, Carmel Hannant and Hewett Academy’s Jenn Hart. Students gained valuable experience in theatre production, from the audition process through to rehearsals and the final performances. Those who weren’t involved in the production cast were involved in all aspects of the behind the scenes, which included helping backstage, and assisting with costumes, hair and make-up.

First produced at the Cambridge Theatre, London, in 2002, ‘Our House’ follows the story of Joe Casey, and the two paths his life could take on the night of his 16th birthday when he takes the girl of his dreams, Sarah, out on their first date. His life splits in two as he makes a decision that will change his life forever – does he stay and help Sarah or run and save himself?

Principal of Hewett Academy, Antony Little said:

"Year after year, the students at Hewett, Jane Austen and Sir Isaac Newton put on a show-stopping performance - and in 2025, “Our House!” was no exception. With its huge ensemble cast, toe-tapping songs and exceptional staging this has been an absolute triumph. It was a show that the whole cast, and their schools, can be proud of. All credit goes to the whole team, including the musicians and backstage crew who brought the show to life. It was a welcome slice of 1970s and 80s musical nostalgia"

Head of Performing Arts at Jane Austen College and Producer of 'Our House!', Carmel Hannant said:

“Once again, it has been a pleasure to work with our students to put on our 2025 musical 'Our House!'. This is my fourth year of producing the collaborative musical between Jane Austen College, Hewett Academy, and Sir Isaac Newton. This year came with its own challenges, with the Walter Roy Theatre being out of action due to the Hewett Academy building works, so it was time to find a new community space in which to hold our production. It has been exciting to perform in such a unique venue, which, I’m sure audiences will agree, added another layer of atmosphere to the production.

I am incredibly lucky to have again worked alongside such supportive colleagues and talented pupils. The collaborative spirit within our team reflected the core values that our schools and the Inspiration Trust stand for. The creative team’s commitment to providing such a memorable and valuable experience for our pupils reminds us of the impact that these experiences have on our young people, whether on stage or off stage.

2025’s production is a testament to our hard-working pupils, and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff members/parents/helpers who were involved or supported the process in any way. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Students across Inspiration Trust schools have the opportunity to take part in performances, musicals and concerts. Other recent productions from across the trust include Frozen’ by Great Yarmouth Charter Academy and ‘Fame’ by East Point Academy, with upcoming performances scheduled for secondary schools throughout the rest of this academic year. Please see individual school websites for more information about their upcoming performances.
