A Day of Determination and Respect - Celebrating Rugby at Annual Inspiration Trust Secondary Tournament
Back
Our nine Inspiration Trust Secondary schools attended Norwich Rugby Club to take part in the annual Rugby 7s Tournament on Tuesday 18th March 2025. Schools could enter year 7-10 teams in either the Contact or Tag tournament, with eight separate tournaments being run throughout the day across 8 simultaneously running pitches.
The 94 matches across the tournament were fast-paced and entertaining to watch, with the 360 participating students demonstrating teamwork and determination throughout. Some big hits were taken and tackles were made across the day, but players always made sure to use safe techniques, and ensure teammates and opponents were okay afterwards. The sportsmanship and respect shown by all players to both the officials and each other was fantastic. Every student – from experienced rugby players to complete beginners – gave the tournament their all and showed fantastic pride to compete for their schools.
The event was supported by student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton, who were instrumental in helping run the event. Students took on roles as scorekeepers, timekeepers and organising the results desk. This was essential as the participating players were eager to know how individual match results were effecting the overall table. Some of the student leaders had little experience of Rugby before the event, but stepped up and grasped the opportunity with two hands, and we could not have put on the event without them.
Assistant Sports Coordinator Tom Wilkinson said:
“As somebody who did not grow up playing rugby, it was great to see the level of sportsmanship on show from players across the tournament. The respect shown by every player to the officials, teammates and opponents shows how amazing these students are, and how amazing rugby culture is. The matches were very entertaining to watch, and I’ve definitely learnt a few things today!”
Paul Wayman, Inspiration Trust Sports Coordinator, said:
“Once again, the fantastic facilities here at Norwich Rugby Club have helped us to deliver a fantastic rugby tournament! Every student gave this event 100%, and did their schools proud. Some of the rugby on display was extremely high quality, and very entertaining to watch.
Our thanks go out to the staff at Norwich Rugby Club for being fantastic hosts once again, as well as to all our amazing PE staff who stepped up and helped out with officiating to keep the tournament running smoothly. This year’s tournament was a massive team effort, and everybody was willing to contribute when needed. A massive thanks also to our student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton, who demonstrated their great organisational skills throughout the day.”
Medals were awarded to the winning teams for each tournament, and one outstanding player from each year group received the player of the tournament award. All students that attended the event received a certificate for participating. The tournament results can be seen below:
