Super Football Skills on Show at Annual Trust Primary Tournament
Back
Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils from our Trust Primary Schools - Charles Darwin, Cobholm, Queensway, Great Yarmouth, Norwich and Stradbroke, took part in a 6-a-side football tournament at GOALS in Norwich on Thursday 20th March 2025.
Pupils were bursting with excitement on arrival, with everybody ready to get on the pitch and show off their skills on a beautiful, sunny day! Each team competed in a round-robin style tournament, with teams playing every other school. Teams included up to 4 boys and 4 girls, with a minimum of 2 players of each gender on the pitch at a time.
On arrival, you could feel the excitement. Pupils eagerly went pitch side to have team photos taken by our marketing team, which are always fantastic souvenirs for the competitors after being framed and sent to each school. After eating lunch and attending the tournament briefing, the players took to the nine GOALS pitches for the tournament to kick-off!
Matches were 10-minutes long, giving both teams opportunity to play thrilling, end-to-end matches. Every player gave the tournament their all, with some fantastic football shown across the tournament. Every second of every match counted, with games often coming down to nail-biting endings that entertained us all. Players demonstrated great teamwork, sportsmanship and respect, with players often congratulating teammates and opponents, and shaking hands after games finished.
Once again, our amazing group of student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and Hethersett Academy were crucial to the smooth running of the tournament. Student leaders helped with organisational roles such as scorekeeping, timing and collecting results, as well as refereeing matches. The organisational skills of these students is a credit to their respective schools, and they prove invaluable to the running of the trust tournaments. Students also put on their scouting hats, helping to identify players to be awarded Player of the Tournament trophies
Whole Trust Sports Coordinator, Paul Wayman said:
“Seeing so many students and staff of a variety of ages from across the Trust coming together for another fantastic Primary sport event is inspiring. Seeing the enthusiasm of each player involved across the tournament was amazing, but to combine that with the demonstration of some of our key sporting values such as determination, sportsmanship and respect shows how mature these students are.
GOALS was a fantastic venue for the tournament, and their staff always ensure a smooth tournament so a massive thanks goes to them. I also want to thank our fantastic staff and student leaders, who helped oversee a variety of jobs across the day to make this football tournament and enjoyable experience for us all.’
