Medley of Pupils Take Part in Annual Music Competition
Back
As another academic year comes to an end, we’ve celebrated with our 5th Annual Inspiration Trust Music Competition. Bringing together students from primary, secondary, and sixth form schools to perform a broad range of songs and instrumentals.
Our music team and tutors work hard to support the next generation of musicians. With extra-curricular clubs and lessons for pupils who want to sing or play an instrument and perhaps take on the Trinity music exams. They also provide opportunities to perform live, such as our Battle of the Bands competition and the trust-wide Carol Service. Whilst our Annual Inspiration Trust Music Competition is a great opportunity for solo classes to practice their repertoire, and duet and ensemble classes to experience musical collaborations.
Over 220 participants took to the stage in the Annual Inspiration Trust Music Competition, held this year at the incredible Epic Studios in Norwich, a venue that has hosted a variety of popular musicians. Pupils from Inspiration Trust schools competed against each other for a chance to take home the first-place trophy in a variety of categories.
Each entry was judged by two adjudicators: Jen Flatman, National Business Development Manager at Trinity College London, and Dan Foden, Head of Centre at Access Creative College. Who’ve previously adjudicated Inspiration Trust’s Piano Competition and Battle of the Bands, respectively. They enjoyed a range of music performed on different instruments, from classical pieces, such as a composition by Beethoven on the Piano and Grovlez on the bassoon. To more modern works, including Jump by Van Halen played on the drums and the Star Wars Theme performed by an orchestra. There were also many vocal talents on stage, singing songs that included Defying Gravity and Flower Duet, and the large Hethersett Academy Choir performed Joyful Joyful.
At the end of the competition all entries were given feedback to help them grow ready for future shows. The adjudicators had a difficult time picking the winners for each category due to the outstanding performances from each participant.
Dan Foden, Head of Centre at Access Creative College: “It was brilliant to see so many talented young people getting up, putting themselves forward and performing. Their teaching teams have done a brilliant job to encourage such strong uptake in music in Inspiration Trust schools, and to nurture such talent.”
The winning entries for our Annual Music Competition each receive a cash prize of £100 for their school/music department, to enable them to buy new equipment. There is also a Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form ‘Music Cup’ for the overall winner of each phase.
