On Friday 12th December, our primary academies were welcomed to the annual Trust Primary dodgeball tournament at the Eileen Ash Sports Hall at Hewett Academy in Norwich. Consisting of 30 matches taking place across 4 courts, 120 pupils and their staff attended to battle it out against each other in the arena hosting the first primary sports event of this academic year.

Six Inspiration Trust primaries from across Norfolk attended the event. Squads of 10 enthusiastic students (5 boys and 5 girls) from Years 5 and 6 at Charles Darwin Primary, Cobholm Primary Academy, Queensway Junior Academy, Great Yarmouth Primary Academy, Norwich Primary Academy, and Stradbroke Primary Academy arrived with enthusiasm and energy. Ready to compete, support and enjoy the day ahead.

Spirits were high as the pupils set up camp at their school’s base for the day. Following the all-important tournament briefing, it was Game On! Fast, frantic and fiercely exciting Dodgeball action ensued. There was ducking, diving, jumping and rolling, with each player demonstrating incredible speed, coordination, and accuracy in their efforts to stay in play. Each court was supported by Hewett Academy sports leaders and Level 3 Sport students from Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, who officiated with exemplary efficiency and authority.

All students constantly demonstrated our sporting value for the event, competing with integrity, by being honest and respecting the rules of the game. They gave their all and did themselves, their teams and their schools proud.

Thomas Wilkinson, Inspiration Trust Assistant Sports Coordinator said:

“What a great way to round off the term! Everybody was in great spirits at today’s primary dodgeball, with students just as involved in karaoke and dancing as they were in the dodgeball! Players embodied the spirit of the day by showing amazing integrity during the tournament, often owning up to being hit or caught out, and congratulating opposition players after games.

A massive thanks goes out to our sports leaders from Sir Isaac and Hewett, without whom the event could not have gone ahead. Thanks also to Mrs Craske, who put in lots of work behind the scenes and on the day to keep the tournament running smoothly.”
