Primary Players Put on Powerful Pitch Performance
Back
Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 across our six Trust Primary Schools — Charles Darwin, Cobholm, Queensway, Great Yarmouth, Norwich and Stradbroke — came together for an exciting 6‑a‑side football tournament at GOALS Norwich on Tuesday 24th March 2026.
From the moment the teams arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. Pupils were eager to step onto the pitch, soak up the atmosphere, and showcase their footballing talents. The event followed a round‑robin format, with each school playing every other team. Squads consisted of up to four boys and four girls, and at least two players of each gender were required on the pitch throughout every match.
Before the action began, teams headed pitch‑side for official squad photographs taken by our marketing team — always a treasured keepsake once framed and delivered back to their schools to be displayed. After attending the tournament briefing, the pupils headed out across nine GOALS pitches ready for the matches to kick‑off.
The fixtures were fast‑paced and full of energy, with each game lasting 10 minutes. Players gave everything from start to finish, treating spectators to end‑to‑end football and some truly fantastic skills. Throughout the day, pupils consistently demonstrated exemplary teamwork, respect and great sportsmanship — celebrating goals together, applauding opponents and shaking hands after every match.
Trust Sports Coordinator, Paul Wayman said “A special thank you goes to our brilliant student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and Hethersett Academy. Their support was essential to the smooth running of the event. From refereeing matches and score keeping to timekeeping and gathering results they handled every responsibility with maturity and professionalism. Their contribution is a real credit to their schools and an invaluable part of our Trust sports events. They also helped identify standout pupils for our Player of the Tournament awards”.
Many thanks also to the exceptional Teachers and Support Staff in attendance, who helped to always ensure their pupils enjoyment and safety.
