In January, we hosted another Inspiration Trust Olympiad, this time with the Geography Quiz Competition. Held at the Hewett Academy, this event celebrated geography, teamwork and academic challenge between the secondary schools at Inspiration Trust.

There was an atmosphere of friendly competition and collaboration in the room this January, nine teams from across Norfolk and Suffolk came together to make the event a great success. Students took pride in representing their schools and supporting each other to do their best.

The quiz was a real test of Geographical knowledge, with each round providing a new challenge for our budding Geographers.

  • Geography in the News – a quickfire round covering current events and global awareness
  • Know your Locations – flexing map skills and place knowledge across the world
  • Famous Places from Satellites – interpreting satellite imagery and using context to decipher famous place locations
  • GeoGuessr – using knowledge of different climates, road signs and language to deduce locations
  • State of the World – covering global trends, issues and awareness
  • Geography World Records – surprising and extreme facts from across the world

Students were excited and determined to take part in the competition, working hard to pick up points where they could and leaning on different strengths in their teams. Showcasing their geographical knowledge, it was impressive to see how students got stuck in with the challenge and came out with some fantastic answers.

Students had a brilliant time showing off their knowledge and competing for their schools. As one teacher remarked: “You could feel the geography in the room!”

Teachers were also able to impress their students in the Teacher Involvement Round, providing answers to some particularly fiendish questions, which was a real highlight for both students and staff.

Chris Moon (Geography Subject Specialist Lead) said: “Students at this year's event showcased a very impressive level of geographical knowledge. It was a joy to see them taking on the challenge of the event and they represented their schools wonderfully.”

The Olympiad was another great success, inspiring students to continue their love of Geography. Events like these enrich learning experiences for young people across the trust, encouraging them to look deeper and explore outside of the curriculum.

Congratulations to Hewett Academy who won the competition with a fantastic total of 112 points.
