Broadcaster and High Performance Podcast host Jake Humphrey visited us at Hethersett Academy on Monday 27th April to mark the launch of an ambitious new Norfolk-wide initiative designed to build mental strength and resilience among young people aged 11-18.

The event marked the launch of Game Plan across Inspiration Trust, a pioneering programme from the High Performance Foundation, into our personal development programme for students aged 11–18 (Years 7–13). Student representatives were in attendance from all secondary academies and sixth forms from across Inspiration Trust, right at the heart of the implementation of this new programme.

Game Plan is a resource for schools that uses engaging video content and celebrity role models to bring the life lessons of the world’s top performers directly into the classroom. The programme is designed to help young people develop resilience, improve wellbeing, and build the employability skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

During his visit, Jake Humphrey saw the tables turn as he took part in an interactive Q&A session and a unique ‘reverse podcast’ interview, where students were centre stage—asking questions about his career journey and exploring the key skills required to succeed at the highest level. A-level students led the session, with an opportunity for our student audience to answer questions via a mic’d up rugby ball!

The session gave some of the students across our secondary schools and sixth forms, a rare opportunity to engage directly with one of the UK’s leading broadcasters and gain insight into the mindset behind high performance.

Jake Humphrey said: “Building mental strength is just as important as academic success. Programmes like Game Plan give young people access to the tools, stories and strategies that can genuinely change how they approach challenges, setbacks and opportunities.”

Louise Jackson, Secondary Director at Inspiration Trust said: “Game Plan is a great resource for the young people in our schools that can be delivered through our personal development programme. We are committed to providing our pupils with the resources and opportunities they need to achieve their goals and succeed in their future lives; building skills such as resilience and confidence, understanding how to overcome challenges and how to be empowered to make a change in the world.”

Our adoption of Game Plan reflects a strong commitment to developing the whole child—not only academically, but also emotionally and psychologically. By implementing the programme into some of our PSHE lessons, we aim to ensure every student has consistent access to high-quality resources that support personal growth and resilience.
