6th Annual Music Competition Showcases the Next Generation
Back
Our schools have come together once again this academic year for the 6th Annual Inspiration Trust Music Competition. With another wide range of songs and performances, it was a fantastic day celebrating all things music at Inspiration Trust.
Our greatest turn out ever of over 250 participants meant that we needed a suitably large venue. This year, The Kings Centre in Norwich played host to the competition, with an awesome stage for our pupils to shine on.
John Stephens, Director of Music at Inspiration Trust said:
“I’m thrilled that pupils and staff alike have growing enthusiasm for representing their schools and showcasing their talent. Of course, it is wonderful that we can offer these performance opportunities, but it is even more exciting that schools and pupils are aiming for constant improvement and development, vying for top spot in this competition. The level of entries improves so much every year, and this year was no exception. Congratulations, all. I can’t wait to see what you produce next year!”
Another opportunity for our next generation of artists to get some experience on stage, this competition brings all performers into one venue to celebrate solo, duet and ensemble performances for a true celebration of a wide range of musical styles and genres.
We were delighted to welcome two guest adjudicators: Rachel Salton, and Dr Susannah Self, to judge our winners for this year's competition. Dr Self is a composer, singer and conductor, and Ms Salton is an experienced head of music, musical director and multi-instrumental performer. Both come with a wealth of industry experience that they were glad to bring to the day, providing our pupils with inspiration and advice on their music careers.
Ms Rachel Salton said:
“It has been an absolute pleasure to adjudicate the Inspiration Trust’s 6th Annual Music Competition. It was wonderful to see how many different instruments were being played by so many different year groups. The level of playing surpassed my expectation from every single person.
What a wonderful day – thank you so much for having me.”
Dr Susannah Self said:
“I am very impressed with the standard of all the musicians. They had prepared their music beautifully and performed it with poise and in a wonderfully relaxed manner – there was literally inspiration all day! Even though there were individuals and ensembles who won in their category, everyone was a winner and the sheer joy showed in their faces. It was an honour to be a small part of this, and to see the music making in state schools to such a high standard.”
The winning entries for our Annual Music Competition each receive a cash prize of £100 for their school/music department, to enable them to buy new equipment. There is also a Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form ‘Music Cup’ for the overall winner of each phase.
