Back
Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 across our Trust Primary Schools — Cobholm, Queensway, Great Yarmouth, Norwich and Stradbroke — came together for an exciting 6‑a‑side football tournament at GOALS Norwich on Friday 9th October 2026.
The event got off to a brilliant start, with players arriving full of enthusiasm and ready to compete. A round-robin format ensured that every school had plenty of opportunities to play, creating an exciting and engaging day of football. Squads featured a mix of boys and girls, with at least two players from each gender participating on the pitch at all times, highlighting the inclusive nature of the competition.
The standard of football throughout the day was outstanding. Punchy, energy-packed 10-minute games were filled with skill and determination as pupils gave their all for their schools. Alongside some excellent teamwork and attacking play, participants consistently demonstrated respect for officials, opponents and teammates, making the event a fantastic celebration of both football and sporting values.

Both teams showed great teamwork and determination throughout the game, creating plenty of chances at either end. Cobholm tenaciously defended their goal and were dangerous on the counterattack. Norwich put up a good fight but were overwhelmed by the attacking power of Cobholm in this first game of the day. The players demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, encouraging one another and respecting their opponents throughout. A number of impressive saves and well-timed tackles kept the match alive, but ultimately Cobholm clenched victory with a 4-0 win. Enthusiasm was high in this first game of the day.

Year 5: Stradbroke vs Queensway: San Siro
The Year 5 mixed football fixture between Stradbroke and Queensway was an entertaining match played at a high tempo, with lots of goals for only a ten-minute game! Stradbroke started brightly, using quick passing to create opportunities, pressing the Queensway defence and applying the pressure. Queensway responded to get back in the game with excellent teamwork and determination, bringing the score back to 2-1. Both teams worked hard in defence, but Stradbroke were the ones to break through, leading the way through the rest of the game. Several well-worked moves brought the spectators to life, with Queensway working hard to get back into the game. The Stradbroke goalkeeper was kept busy and produced some fine saves to keep the lead up until the final whistle. The match was played in a fantastic spirit and finished up with a 5-2 win for Stradbroke.

Year 6: Great Yarmouth Primary vs Cobholm: Nou Camp
Great Yarmouth and Cobholm produced a thrilling Year 6 mixed football match after lunch, which showcased the quality and maturity of both teams. Great Yarmouth played with a real urgency and had creativity in possession, while Cobholm demonstrated resilience and counter attacked from some impressive saves by their goalkeeper. Director of Sport, Paul Wayman Jackson said, “A special thank you goes to our brilliant student leaders from Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and Hethersett Academy. Their support was essential to the smooth running of the event. From refereeing matches and score keeping to timekeeping and gathering results they handled every responsibility with maturity and professionalism.
